An Appeal for spare rugby kit or equipment
Saturday 4th April
An appeal has been launched to encourage local rugby fans to donate their spare rugby kit or equipment as part of an initiative to help children in South Africa. The SOS IRB Kit Aid initiative is being supported by HSBC as part of its role as Principal Sponsor of the British & Irish Lions Tour, which takes place in South Africa this summer. Clubs and schools are being encouraged to dig out unused rugby kit which will be distributed to underprivileged youngsters in developing countries.
In association with HSBC Rugby Festivals, SOS IRB Kit Aid will facilitate a number of kit drops to emerging and financially disadvantaged rugby schools in the country during the British and Irish Lions Tour. Around 60,000 children from around the UK & Ireland will take part in one-day festivals in the lead up to the Lions Tour this summer. The Northern Ireland festival will be hosted at Cooke Rugby Club early next month.
Rugby fans are asked to hunt out any clean kit and bring it along to Cooke Mini Rugby Tournament this coming Saturday. There will be a special kit collection on the day and all the kit collected will be sent over to children in South Africa during the forthcoming Lions Tour.
